This 19th Century cup and saucer set is exquisite! Both pieces are painted in cobalt blue that has an iridescent coating and detailed with gilt gold designs. The cup itself features a masterful portrait of child "Roi De Rome" or King of Rome, Napoleon Bonaparte II. Napoleon François Charles Joseph Bonaparte was the first legitimate heir of French Emperor Napoleon I born from his second wife and daughter of the Austrian Emperor, Marie-Louise of Habsburg-Lorraine. As the young heir was born in 1811, this portrait appears to be from around 1814-15 which is around the same time the Emperor abdicated in exile. Though given the title "King of Rome", Napoleon II never reigned and spent the remainder of his life in Austria. History aside, this beautiful piece of porcelain is a true treasure!
