Vintage La Mer Lithograph by Alexandre Calame Framed Limited Reproduction Print
Originally, the lithographic print was made by Swiss artist, Alexandre Calame (1810-1864) and is part of the Cleveland Museum of Art collection. La Mer is a view of the tumultuous sea with billowing waves crashing to mist along a rocky coast. Each mark made adds to the energy of this piece. Though this print is a 1950 limited reproduction, it is thoughtfully done with permission from the CMA. Alexandre Calame was born in Vevey, Switzerland and during his lifetime did unexcelled work as a painter, lithographer and etcher. Although his subjects were usually Alpine, a usual exception is the Seascape, La Mer. The vigorous treatment and almost theatrical allure which characterized his efforts are especially dramatized in La Mer This Production was made by Continental Lithograph Corporation in 1950 by the Contichrome Process.
