MCM with a touch of whimsy -  Perfectly describes this 1951 ceramic ashtray designed by Sascha Brastoff (1917-1993). Originally from Cleveland, but spent time in New York and Los Angeles immersing himself in the arts - both performative and visual. According to an article by the American Museum of Ceramic Art, he served in WWII and at that time created “GI Carmen Miranda” which became a very popular drag performance. From dancing to ceramics, Brastoff found his voice and left a vibrant legacy!
