He studied at Carnegie Institute, gained inspiration and more skills while in Europe, and designed for Johnson Furniture for 30 years. The Jounson Furniture Company was a Grand Rapids Michigan company founded in 1908 after five years of small production cabinet making. During the 1940s, their factory converted into aircraft production to aide the war efforts.  Though the company was techically operational until 1983, the final Johnson family member retired in 1963.
