A Pair of Bronze Figures, After Etienne Falconnet, Late 19th Century
Each Figures is cast as a young child and is raised on a black and gray mottled marble base. The boy draped loosely in a robe and adorned with grapes and vines. The young girl is similarly draped but is festooned with a floral crown and carries a small bird’s nest in her left hand. These figures could depict the seasons, Fall and Spring. The bronze figures have a rich brown patina with some hints of gold. They are signed ”Falconnet” and are covered on the base with green felt. This does obscure the base but it feels as if the figures are attached to the marble base with a rod and bolt.
