Antique 19th Century Rafael Contreras Marble Plaster Framed Alhambra Plaque features iconic Islamic designs of the Nasrid-period Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain.
Contreras first made a model of a section of the Alhambra in 1847 after working with his father. His desire was to show Queen Isabella II the improvements being made in the castle. Contreras also crafted details and colors he believed would've appeared in the 11th century version of the palace. Impressed with his sculptural and artistic abilities, the Queen suggested the continue making models. Contreras then began making scale models in Alhambra's restoration workshop before moving to more tourist-focused designs in his own workshop.
