Collector's Notes:
These are a pair of Early 19th Century fashion plates from the Regency era, specifically hand-colored aquatint engravings titled "Ball Dress" and "Full Dress" created by William Hopwood in 1812 and 1813. The prints are from Ackermann's Repository of Arts, a popular publication in London from 1809 to 1829. After 1829, the publication shortened its name and focused on fashion.
The ball gown was typically more intricately decorated than daywear during this period. The style of the dress, with its high waist and flowing skirt, is characteristic of Regency-era fashion.
