Marquis de la Lafayette, Commander of The National Guard (1757-1834)

The Marquis de Lafayette was a French aristocrat, military officer, and key figure in both the American and French Revolutions. As Commander of the National Guard in France, he was a pivotal, though often conflicted, leader during the early years of the French Revolution following the storming of the Bastille in 1789. His career is marked by a lifelong dedication to democratic ideals and human rights, earning him the nickname "Hero of Two Worlds" for his service to both France and the United States.
