This Antique Apostle Spoon dates to 1877. Versions of these spoons have been produced as early as the 15th Century in a set of 13; a spoon for each apostle and one for Jesus or a part of the Trinity. Single spoons became popular in the 17th century as baptismal gifts. A tradition preserved in this sculptural 19th century spoon! In this spoon, we see an armor-clad figure with a shield at the top, a twisting column at the center, and an inverted figure standing on a face near the spoon.
