Antique 19th Century Burmese Pan Duang Red Black Lacquer Basket; flower offering basket known as a pan daung. Dates from late 19th C to early 20th C. Burmese artisans used strips of woven bamboo, with natural sap lacquer. Traditional black and cinnabar red color scheme
Oval shape, features signature tall arched open-work handle with curvilinear cutouts that rise above a distinctive lattice border. Used to carry floral offerings to Buddhist pagodas and shrines.
Signed base; Burmese script signature which confirms piece was made by established lacquer workshop, not mass produced for tourism.
Condition: Very Good
Expected wear for age; minor fissures in wood consistent with age, minor lacquer peeled off in spots. Inspect images and video.
