He was originally an apprentice of Vilhelm Bissen and was later admited to the Art Academy in 1877 from where he graduated in 1885. Afterwards he was a permanent exhibitor at the Art Academy's showrooms at Charlottenborg and was later part of the censur comittee and a member of the Royal Danish Academy of the Arts.

He made a classical educational trip to Rome in 1889 and lived and worked in Chicago in the US 1894-1896.

He was first employed at Ipsen's widow and later at Bing & Grondahl and Royal Copenhagen, where he achieved his great recognition as a sculptor.” - Danish Plate Trading
