Every home needs an Antique Print! Especially one with a good back story. This 19th Century Tinted Print was created by Rudolph Ackermann; an 18th Century carriage maker and artist.
Let us introduce you to the inspiring story of the entrepreneurial and artistic spirit of Rudolph Ackermann (1764-1834): The German-born son of a saddler and coach-maker, Rudolph Ackermann, was an ambitious lad who dreamed of studying at university. When finances were unable to meet that goal, he took after his father's trade and moved to London at 23 to carry on the tradition in a lucrative area. He had a penchant for self-promotion and creativity around design that propelled his business and won him important contracts. To promote his industry further, he used his artistic talents to create a publication featuring his fashionable carriages. A few years later, he opened his own lithography press where he began to trade prints, manufacture colors, and landscape paper. He quickly outgrew the first office and had to find a larger facility to keep up with demand. This lead him to open a book publishing business to go hand-in-hand with the print-developing. It also allowed him to employ and discover talented printmakers and authors of the time. And throughout all of this, he was still working on carriage designs, inventing more efficient carriages, and patenting his inventions for every business he was involved with. He was also one of the first buildings to transition lighting to gas during the time.
