Adorn your desk with an Antique treasure! This early 20th Century Crystal and Sterling Silver Inkwell was crafted by the Unger Brothers. The lid features a repoussé portrait of a Native American wearing a feathered headdress, possibly depicting Sitting Bull the former Hunkpapa Lakota leader. The 1800s were filled with conflicts and battles involving Native American tribes as the US pushed West. Sitting Bull played a major role in leading resistance tribes in the Great Plains. This history made Native American motifs popular in households which is how we now have many examples of the Unger Brother's "Indian" design in many forms. This Inkwell is special due to the polished crystal base in a square with beveled edges. Use it as intended, a clever paperweight, or simply as part of your collection!
The Unger Brothers began producing Sterling Silver items in the 1870s from their Newark, New Jersey company. They were known for their Art Nouveau designs.
Hallmarked "STERLING 925 FINE" with worn Unger Brothers hallmarks on both sides.
