Hugh Kepets, American (1946-)
This framed offset lithography is pencil Signed Lower Right Corner by Hugh Kepets circa 1978 for Fischbach Gallery, New York City.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1946, Kepets received his Fine Arts degrees from Carnegie-Mellon University and Ohio University and has lived and worked in New York City for decades. He is known for his precise and patterned compositions, often transforming familiar objects and architectural elements into evocative abstractions. He uses meticulous highlighting and shadow effects to create a sense of three-dimensional space within his carefully observed details. His compositions are often sharply cropped to emphasize the beauty of shapes and forms, and he explores formal notions of surface flatness, figure-ground relationships, and compositional symmetry.
The Fischbach Gallery was founded in 1960 by Marilyn Cole Fischbach. It became known for promoting young minimalist artists during the 1960s.
