Octagonal top with a carved beaded border that frames the veined neutral brown cream marble slab. Hand-carved openwork aprons with detailed floral plum blossom motifs. Long elaborate cabriole legs have matching floral relief carvings anchored by a sturdy X-form base.
According to the Majolica International Society, the carved plum tree blossoms represent resilience, perseverance, purity, and long life. These intricate carvings are much favored to generic scrollwork. Made with mortise-and-tenon joints, this construction allows the wood to naturally expand and contract with humidity over its lifespan. Very popular during late Qing Dynasty.
