Watson has origins as early as 1874 when was formed in Attleboro, MA with founders Clarence L. Watson, Fred Newell, Charles Cobb, Samuel Gould and W.A. Battey. Battey, Cobb and Gould left between 1875 and 1880 and Watson and Newell operated "Watson & Newell" from 1880-1886. Joseph R. Ripley joined in 1887 and changed its name to "Watson, Newell & Co". In 1896, the name changed to Watson & Newell Co with the opening of a larger factory. By the turn of the century, Watson & Newell were producing hundreds of flatware sets and souvenir spoons.
