Vintage pair of silhouettes by C. & A. Richards of Boston, Ma operating from 1910-1950. The male profile is of the first Mayor of Salem, Ma, Leverett Saltonstall, born in 1783. He served as mayor from 1836-1838 and also served in the Massachusetts Congress in both Senate and House before and after his mayoral term. In the second half of this set, we see a woman's profile. On the back, she is listed as an "unknown woman of Benjamin Barstow Family". Each silhouette sits against a swirled cut-paper background.
Collector's Notes:
Pair Antique Style 19th Century Massachusetts Figures Framed Silhouettes by C. & A. Richards of Boston, Stamped "Richards Made in Germany" on stand. Appear to be reverse painted on the glass. Made for surface display, though it looks as if a former owner glued hooks on the back to hang and it would be possible to do the same.
Condition: Good
