Born in Jerusalem in 1936, Samia Halaby is a leading abstract painter and an influential scholar of Palestinian art. Although based in the United States since 1951, today she is recognized as one of the Arab world's leading contemporary painters. Her work is influenced by the Eastern Mediterranean’s geometric abstraction of Islamic architecture, as well as by the abstract movements of the Russian Constructivist avant-garde. “Cleveland” was commissioned by the Print Club of Cleveland and published by them in 1975 in a sole limited edition of 260 impressions.
