This woodblock print depicts a Geisha in the middle of preparations for the Tanabata festival.
Utagawa Hiroshige is recognized as a master of the ukiyo-e woodblock printing tradition, having created 8,000 prints of everyday life and landscape in Edo-period Japan. His paintings initially featured figures such as samurai, actors, and women, but eventually he shifted to landscapes which were recognized early on by Western Impressionists.
