Kalevala Koru was founded in the 1930s by Elsa Heporauta, a writer who was inspired by a 19th Century compilation of regional epic poems called Kalevala. This design reflects the company's early desire to produce jewelry inspired by Finnish history and culture.
Fun fact: Star Wars' Princess Leia wore a Kalevala necklace with her iconic white gown, though that necklace looks much different than this ancient-inspired design.
